CLEVELAND — Two people shot — one fatally — about 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of East 12th Street were likely the victims in a robbery, police said.
“They were truly innocent people,” said Lt. Thomas Stacho, police spokesman. “It was an apparent robbery.”
Jeremy Pechanec, 28, and Jory Aebly, 26, had attended a party at Scorchers in downtown Cleveland, witnesses said. Both were shot after the bar closed.
Pechanec died at 9:31 p.m. from gunshot wounds to the head and shoulder, according to the Cuyahoga County coroner’s office.
“It appears to have been execution style,” said Powell Caesar, spokesman for the coroner’s office.
Pechanec and Aebly were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Both men worked the second shift at the Cleveland Clinic in the department of pathology and laboratory medicine, Clinic officials said.
Witnesses told police that they heard a fight outside the bar and then heard three gunshots.
Jeremy was my friend. I had known him since I was 12 years old. Why these horrible things happen, we may never know. But every time I lose someone I care about, a small piece of me dies with them. For all those souls, may they find peace.
