Thanksgiving 2014 – Originally posted on CaringBridge

Update first: Mom has made the decision to not go through with the biopsy and forego any treatments. While this news was definitely hard to hear, it was not unexpected, and the whole family respects her decision. Our goal now is to move forward making sure she is comfortable and spend as much time with her as we can. No one has given us an exact timeline, so we are doing our best to live in the moment and not take anything for granted.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving hosted in Denise and Matt’s beautiful home.  We are so blessed to have such a tight-knit clan that explodes with chaos and laughter every time the 30+ of us are in one space. A mouthwatering spread was laid out and enjoyed by all. Mom seemed to particularly enjoy our annual “Leftover Turkey Show” which is a talent show of sorts, although the term “talent” could be construed loosely. Lots of laughter, singing, and dancing.

In the prayer, Denise said that the focus of Thanksgiving tends to be on “giving thanks”, but we should also be thankful for the ability to give. We hope everyone was able to not only give thanks, but give of themselves to others. The act of giving brings so much joy not only to the one who receives, but also to the one who gives.

Happy Thanksgiving!
